This book documents the lives of some of some of the most creative, innovative and provocative artists in America. Most of them we have not heard of. African-American history is a vibrant and essential thread in the history of all Americans. The portraits are haunting, authentic and vulnerable. It is extremely important for the consciousness of our world to see this exquisite book as a vital and important voice that speaks to everyone. We must not let these voices become silent. Savor the photographs, read the content and etch these grand souls into your memory. Then buy another copy and pass it on. This is how we remember.

The setting of the story was in Texas present day. The main characters in the book were Saha,Brian,and Claudia. My favorite character was Claudia because she was so helpful .My favorite part of the book was when Claudia was happy with her sister and they stopped fighting and Brian was happy too.I recommend this book to people 13 years old to 15 years because it was very exciting and people can see different ways to stop fighting.

"Black Jack" Logan was perhaps the best of the "political" generals of the Union army.
His military service, from Forts Henry and Donelson, through Vicksburg and Atlanta and on to the Carolinas, demonstrated not only his own abilities and personal courage, but also was emblematic of the skilll and sacrifice of his "Egyptians" of southern Illinois generally. His political thought, too, illustrative of the times, reflected the shift in Illinois opinion from initial confusion and wavering, to near-solid support for Lincoln and his war policies.
In conjunction with this very readable biography, the reader might be also be interested in "Reminiscences of a Soldier's Wife", Mrs. Logan's memoirs, which cannot be regarded as entirely reliable but which are a valuable adjunct to Jones' biography and give a colorful insight into the times.

After having spent nearly three years in Angola with an international organization, I have my own views on Angola, the Government and the laboured peace process and left Angola more than a little cynical. Mr. Bredin and Ms. Logan's book covers not only Angola, but (the former)Zaire, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. It was with great pleasure that I read the book which also accounts the tumultuous events in Angola of 1992, all related with a healthy dose of humour. It brought back a lot of good memories for me and I feel it really captured the essense of the country and the people, not only of Angola, but the other countries through which the Benguela Railroad passes. Armed with this book, I visited some of the major towns along the railway including Benguela and Huambo during my time there, a fascinating experience made all the better by "Blood on the Tracks". An excellent book and a great introduction to the realities of life in Southern Africa.

I strongly suggest Buffalo Creek to those who have survived "leverage buyouts" and "corporate veils." There truely is a full circle

The folks in Earl Gladstone Hunts early life helped shape this East Tennessee leviathan - a giant, a bridge builder, a preacher in the Methodist itinerant ministry - one who occupied the episcopal office for twenty-four years. He is also an educator - college president, and evangelist - President of the Foundation for Evangelism. Throughout his ministry his central theme was telling the message of Jesus Christ, His birth, life and teachings, sacrificial death and resurrection, to an anxious, disoriented world.

In the "Bridge Builder" chapter, Hunt is likened to a bridge with tensile strength allowing traffic in both directions. The biographer relates a number of areas that seemed almost impossible to bridge. Yet with respect for those with whom he worked, he diplomatically built those bridges.

While driving on icy roads, if one overcorrects in any direction, it could bring disaster. Bishop Hunt has steered with a strong, steady hand through many treacherous roads. Racism was addressed all across his tenure but he names the homosexual issue as the one that stimulated the most mail response. Hunger, the Bomb, disintegration of family life, drugs, poverty, housing, struggle for freedom, excesses of affluence, and he even addressed the process of episcopal elections. He considered the most important assignment of his career the task of working with a committee and preparing a statement that would reflect the needs of Wesleyan tradition in the contemporary world.

His experience as a College President, his commitment to evangelism and his visibility within the church was providential for the Foundation for Evangelism. The chairs of evangelism in the seminaries will insure that his contribution will live in the lives of seminarians for decades to come.

Dr. James Logan has done a masterful job of reporting on one of the heros in the faith. Bishop Hunt is not only tall on the outside - he is tall on the inside. Would that there were hundreds more like him!

The voice, behind the words, of "Choosing To Be Well" is reasoned and passionate, without being strident or accusatory. The balance between self revelation and case study is handled with taste, suggesting that the writer successfully masks the tendency to indoctrinate and encourages rather than demands the reader to experiment with the material presented. The basic, conscious and higher selves are presented in triadic succession. The linkage procedes with illustrations and exercises that are both simple yet profound in their unmasking of the unreserved simplicity that most of us employ in addressing our overall health. The mind body duplicity, characterised by an unwitting sabotage, inherent to both, is exposed and ameliorated in a writing style that celebrates hard work and self examination at the expense of quick, easy cures and "helpful hints on self help from Helen". This is a remarkable book, calling us all to task for our self destructive, self absorbtion and challenging us to rethink our preconceptions of what it means to be truely healthy and what it takes to "choose to be well".

I have a new holiday tradition that has added meaning to my Christmas. Since its publication, I have read and reread Christmas Remembered by Ben Logan each Christmas season. Mr. Logan's memories of Christmas have brought me wisdom and changed the way in which I look at Christmas and life. Logan writes: "I know there is something in Christmas, fragile as the laughter of children, that wakens the sleeping goodness in us, making it easier to feel, show, and say "I love you." His recounting of Christmas as a youth growing up on a farm in Wisconsin brings a simple, poignant meaning to what Christmas is all about. Another recollection of Christmas in Italy during World War II brings the stark reality of life to view, but in a way that joins one culture to another. The telling of stories is a tradition Logan feels is very important in family and culture alike. He writes that it is his hope as a writer that you, the reader, bring yourself to his stories and make them a part of your own story. His hopes are fulfilled as no one can read this moving Christmas book without being changed in a very special way.

While reading "Revolution" I had a conversation with a freind, Linda, and she just purchased "The Coaching Revolution" on-line. I told Linda, I read through half of Logan and King (finishing up the excellent Core Values section), and said "You gotta look at getting this book..." Reading Logan and King is different experientially-- being that I'm reading some of what I have heard in conversations with John King. The book is an easy and quick read.

I'm reading Logan and King... and don't read books. I read text books and periodicals. I like Shakespeare and Eliot-- very prolific and also VERY dead.

Love the book. And it was particularly inspiring. Today I put my name in for a Function Manager position-- one that I am likely to be considered for, and also for a lead position in another project entirely. Thank you.

This is one of my favorite books. I read it several years ago for the first time. I have memorized its place on the library shelf. Its the story of how a girl loses her mother and runs away from her step-father. She lives in the woods and takes in a young coyote. I won't spoil the rest, but sadness and happiness come. I hope anyone who reads this will love it, too.
